Today I have the recently released Free Spirit Collection by US based brand, Illyrian Polish to share with you. I haven’t tried a lot of Illyrian’s yet, however have quite a few here yet to try and plenty of them have caught my eye since the brand released. Each shade seems to have this stunning mystical quality to it, are beautifully unique, and they always have the best names too!
The polishes are all proudly cruelty free and free of the five big nasties found in tradition nail polish. So let’s dive in and see what I think about my first full collection by Illyrian!
For each of my swatches I used Picture Polish Top’n’Base Topcoat. All images are taken under artificial daylight bulbs apart from a couple which I have noted on the images.
Astral is a beautiful vibrant light blue creme that is filled with bright blue shimmer which gives the finished look a true luminescence. I never wear shades this colour, but I found with that shimmer lighting up on my nails, it is certainly calling to me!
The formula on this was a little patchy for me, however I don’t believe I waited long enough between coats. For my swatches I applied three thin coats with topcoat, and as I mentioned, I recommend to wait until each coat dries properly before applying the next.
Talisman was one of those polishes I just knew I would love immediately! I don’t know how many polishes I own with red/green/bronze shifting pigment, but they are all slightly different and ALWAYS gorgeous! I can never tire of them! This one is rich in pigment that has a decent, strong shift from vibrant green to red and bronzed gold.
Talisman applied very easily, was super smooth and opaque in two thin coats. On me, it also has worn really well. I have this on my nails right now, and have done for four days now and it’s not got any wear at all which is astounding for me with a polish.
Moondust is a sheer smokey based polish filled with different flakies and iridescent shimmer. It was created to be sheer on purpose and while it looks a bit odd in bright, artificial lighting. I regular daylight and indoors, it looks quite elegant with glimmering, colourful pops. I also think think would be beautiful layered over various base colours which make it quite versatile.
For my swatches today I have three thin coats and one coat of topcoat. It applied really easily and I found the ratio of flakies to base quite nice and no issues at all.
Dream Catcher is one of my favourites from this collection. A stunning minty green with blue tones and full of super fine pink-gold shimmer. The shimmer does shift slightly when you move your nails however trying to catch it on camera did not work.
This one is more of a creme-jelly so I found I didn’t have any issue with it being patchy at all. I did have to build it up a bit for a nice opacity. For my swatches I have applied three thin coats. It is super smooth and a delight to apply.
Next up in the Free Spirit Collection is Amethyst, and as you could have likely guessed from the name this one is a beautiful dusky violet shade. It contains a nice scattered holo and lovely little golden flakes throughout. The tone of the shade is slightly dusky which I really liked rather than an overly ‘candy’ style shade.
Again, this polish applied nice and smoothly needing three thin coats for opacity.
The final polish I have today is Cosmic Moment, and it’s just gorgeous! This has a navy blue coloured base tint with this gorgeous colour shifting shimmer that moves blue, teal and purple and a strong holographic effect. It’s really beautiful and different no matter how you look at it.
For my swatches I have applied three thin coats to avoid any patchiness and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of the colour shifty goodness on there.
I really enjoyed this collection so much and I am loving getting to know this brand a bit more! Which is your favourite from this release?
