Alchimia Apothecary First Impressions

May 18, 2015

I have always been a long time freak about bath & body, especially aromatherapy based products with many hours spent playing around with my own supplies and knowledge to fulfill my needs. However my disappointment has, for many years, lied in the fact that I just cant find what I’m looking for within Australia, and frankly, I’m too lazy to order from overseas.

Enter Femme Fatale Cosmetics and their foresight to start stocking some artisan scent and bath & body brands. I was hot of the mark with getting some to try. I have seen many a name pop up after being introduced to the world of indie b&b last year, and one of them was Alchimia Apothecary.

For those who don’t know, Alchimia Apothecary, based in America I believe, is a small batch producing apothecary producing crafted perfume, cologne, custom blended fragrances, and bath and body products. They have an extensive menu that you could lose yourself in for hours, it’s all just so good!

My first purchase included three little sample vials of perfume, so I could determine which ones I liked best. I bought Layer Cake, Oasis, and Sex & Violets.

They are the little vials at the forefront of the image above. They are excellent, around 1.5ml, and the perfect size to trial a scent before committing to the larger, 5ml bottle.

Here are the descriptions from the perfumer;

Oasis-Β Deep in this hidden blue lagoon are sparkling crisp pools of water cutting through the amazon mist that contains hints of sweet plumeria, exotic ginger, Hawaiian hibiscus, and just a touch of deep dark earth after the rain.

Layer Cake-Β This is a combination of strawberries, lychee, dragon fruit, mangoes and other sweet fruit drizzled over a thick slice of birthday cake and topped with a fresh dollop of whipped cream.

Sex & Violets-Β This rich elixir is sweet and playful, yet sexy and mysterious. The sweet floral body of violets blends perfectly with playful juicy peaches and exotic freesia.

This is what the sample bottles look like in comparison to the 5ml full size.

How cute are they?!

I tried Layer Cake first, and oh my! It’s delicious. It smells so good. The only thing I noticed with it is that it really didn’t seem to last very long on me. But I will definitely wear it a lot, and may pick up a full size down the track.

The second scent I tried was Oasis, and I was sold! No other scent even got a look in. It lasted well, smelt like ‘me’, and is just perfect for the type of scent I like, they way it develops on me is perfect.

Lastly, Sex And Violets, I’m still a bit on the fence about this one. I’ll be spending more time with it later down the track.

From my testing of the mini’s I went back and ordered myself a full size Oasis, which I am very pleased with. The 5ml size comes with a dripolater attached which makes applying it easy, and I can go and smell great for a good portion of the day!

I’m excited to continue to try more Alchimia Apothecary products. I’d be very interested in their solid perfumes.

Have you tried Alchimia? Any recommendations for me?

You will find a small variety at Femme Fatale Cosmetics, or you can purchase directly from Alchimia Apothecary who ship worldwide.
