Femme Fatale Cosmetics- Melobasina

January 30, 2015

Today I have a new polish from Femme Fatale Cosmetics to share with you. Entitled Melobasina, this is the Limited Edition Colour of The Month for February. Chosen and voted upon by members of the Fatale Fiends Facebook group, the inspiration behind this was to create a polish that resembled the colourings of an oil slick on the nails.

When I saw that this choice won the vote I was super excited to see what Sophie would come up with.

Hurrah!! It seems this gave Femme Fatale the opportunity to release….

You know it’s coming…

Multi-chrome flakies!

Melobasina is the primary genus name of a beetle I believe. A beetle with sparkly, colour shifting, metallic finished exoskeleton. Pretty cool right?

Melobasina the polish is a dark blue/purple based bottle of magic with a pink to green colour shifting shimmer and a blend of multi chrome flakies, like those we are seeing around a lot at the moment.

Having acquired a lot ofΒ multi chrome flakiesΒ in clear bases, and already getting pretty over that side of things, I get really excited when I see them used creatively like Femme Fatale have done for us with this polish.

In full sun.

Melobasina is a very easy polish to apply, only needing two to three coats for opacity and a stunning appearance on your nails. It just looks glorious in whatever lighting you happen to be in.

For my swatches I applied three thin coats of Melobasina and one coat of topcoat. Because Melobasina is a jelly based polish you’ll need to wrap your tips well to avoid any ‘pull-back’ of the polish, but as you can see, even with my tip wrapping poorness it wasn’t too bad at all.

While the polish is not an exact representation of an oil slick, it most definitely owns the colours of an oil slick glistening in the light. I think Sophie has absolutely nailed it with the challenge, as well as using the multi chrome flakies like a pro. Personally I freaking love this polish, have worn it since I received it, and I’m still wearing it today. I made sure it was the last polish I swatched for this very reason, hehe.

After these initial swatches I decided to use Melobasina again over a base. I am currently testing out a black peel-off base coat which you’ll see a review of next week. So, below shows two coats of Melobasina over a black base. It does hide the deep purple base jelly colour, however really seems to accentuate the shimmer.

What can I say? I love it both ways.

Melobasina will only be available while stocks last during February from Femme Fatale Cosmetics. As with all Femme Fatale’s colour of the month shades, I shouldn’t need to remind you, they sell out fast, very fast, so to ensure your chance to grab one of these head to Femme Fatale Cosmetics first thing on February 1st at 9am Brisbane time.

A little heads up too, for those of you who may have missed out on January’s Colour of the Month, Blue Vervain, Rainbow Connection will have some in stock very soon.

I’ll be back tomorrow to share a very special Valentine’s Trio which will be available for pre-sale also on February 1st. Eeeeek!

Gorgeous swatches. I don’t usually go for LEs, I don’t like the feeding frenzy and my wallet can only handle so much. But this is an exception, such a stunner I am going to have to budget for it!

    • Thanks. Haha. I understand the crazy rush for LE’s. It makes it difficult doesn’t it. Although I must admit when you have success getting them it’s quite exciting. I think this one will be worth the rush.
