Wow! I’m later than usual posting this. I am assuming that everyone worldwide who ordered this box has long ago received it in their hot little hands and had a good look. May’s What’s In-Die Box threw at us a True Blood theme, which I personally had high expectations of as I LOVE the books, and the show, and the inspiration to pull from the series is so extensive.
I did feel slight pity for the five brands who participated, as I’m sure a lot of customers had high expectations, and when seeing the inspiration pictures that teased us that month, you could get a picture in your imagination from what to expect. Femme Fatales Cosmetics, their first ever contribution to the monthly box. Poor Dead Set Babes, choosing Eric, I mean, was it tough to live up to peoples pre-conceived notions of what a bottle of Eric would be? How could you even bottle that perfection! And Lilypad, after the worldwide chaos surrounding her True Blood polishes, how could she top that? Well, let’s take a look (even though I’m sure its been seen and blogged about already), and see how they did from my point of view…….
ALL FLAVOUR NO BITE- PEITA’S POLISH
Inspired by the undead’s life preserving drink, Peita’s Polish bottled us some True Blood. This one immediately grabbed my attention as soon as I unwrapped it from the box. I love red polishes, and this one is a stunning shade of red, formulated into jelly with beautiful red and iridescent glitters to give it depth. I applied two coats for my swatch, and I just feel I could drink it (don’t drink it! its a metaphor!).
I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAIL POLISH IN THE MORNING- LILYPAD LACQUER
I just love this line from the tv show, haha, I really must watch it again! This Lilypad is very busy and complex. We have a blue base that shines metallic with a very slight purple shift (that I could not get to photograph on my nails), microglitters, holo, and flakies. There is so much going on in this polish, and whilst it is nice, I’m not sold on if I like it a whole lot. I think the flakies, of which some were quite large could have been left out and the polish would have been still complex and nice just like that. It was just a little too much for me. Despite all the additions, it was easy to apply, only needing two coats and one of topcoat.
SOOKIE- FEMME FATALE COSMETICS
It’s like wearing a negligee on your nails! At first I was disappointed because I knew it wouldn’t be opaque on its own, but it grew on me, and now I love it. It is has a slightly ivory based appearance with light golden flakies and a golden/pink shift which is particularly evident in the shade. I used three coats for my swatches, and could still see slight vnl. Next time I will try layering it over a nude, just to have a solid base. Despite the vnl, I really love it’s delicate nature, and I think seeing the free edge helps the sheer, angelic, negligee look of the polish.
CIAO B*$%^@#S- GLAM POLISH
Inspired by the flamboyant character Lafayette, Glampolish brought us a sparkly blend of holo goodness with tiny holo hexes in a blackened base. I really should’ve layered this over black. I know black tints always photograph purpel-ish for me. I love this one in the bottles, my photos don’t really do it for me though (sorry). Definitely a re-swatch polish, over black next time! I used two coats of this polish and one topcoat.
ERIC IN CHAINS- DEAD SET BABES
Ummmm…Is this a question? Yes please 😉 This polish is simple in its beauty. I think Dead Set Babes did a great job. The polish has a silver foil finish with a stunning holo rainbow. I only needed two coats for my swatches, photographed without topcoat. Included with the polish was some cute little fang decals, which I didn’t use for this as I just wanted straight swatches, but I’m sure when the show re-start for it’s final season I’ll be inspired for something ‘fangy’.
Overall, once again, I am so glad I got this box, and have these polishes in my possession. Pick a favourite? The Peita’s Polish is definitely a solid favourite, simply because, red jelly…. The Femme Fatale is by far another favourite, because of it’s delicate beauty. I couldn’t pick between those two though, they are on two different wavelengths!
Unfortunately, boxes for the 1 year anniversary holo What’s In-Die Box have now closed, I know this because I finally got hold of spare cash last night….when it was over and shut down! But, in future, if you’d like to purchase a box, head to the site, and in the meantime, check out the What’s In-Die Box Facebook page.
