4 Sleeps til Christmas!!!
So, I saw tonight that Elissa of Ten Little Nubs participated in a pretty cool tag going around, and since she tagged all the general blogging public, and I and nothing to do tonight, I thought I’d join in, because I just love Christmas the best!! Read on for Christmas coolness!
What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
My favourite thing about Christmas is my kids faces as they see the Christmas tree after Santa has been, their faces when we visit some awesome Christmas lights, or just anything that has a hint of magic to it surrounding Christmas. Their faces are priceless and remind me to take a moment to let the magic settle in myself.
When you were a kid, what did you leave for Santa on Christmas Eve?
A glass of milk and some biscuits. Now with my kids, we do the same thing, but we add some carrots for the Reindeer 🙂
Do you and/or your family have any Christmas traditions?
We have a ‘Santa’s Little Helper’, kind of has the same style of Elf On The Shelf, but without the ‘stab you in your sleep’ look! He is a cute stuffed bear who moves around the house in the night, keeping an eye on the kids. They love searching for him every morning through December! Also, I make Borstplaat, a Dutch fondant candy that my Oma used to make every Christmas. When she passed, I spent months trying to get her recipe right, and I finally got it last year!! It’s amazing, and oh so sweet!
When decorating, do you go all out or just do a small amount of decorating?
I go all out, but just for one area of the house, usually the lounge room. It is a Christmas sanctuary! At the moment though, it looks like tinsel exploded in my home, since the Christmas tree is my 9month old’s favourite ‘ go to’ toy right now! He’s like a moth to a flame.
What is your favourite Christmas food?
Whatever I can get in my belly!! Hmm, I love all the traditional food, ham, turkey, gravy, roasted vegetables, more gravy! Then, because it’s summer here, you just can’t beat a lazy, relaxing BBQ, finished with pavlova and tropical fruits!
What is your favourite Christmas movie?
Probably something corny, like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
By a long shot, John Lennon, Happy Christmas War Is Over. It gives me goosebumps, and has had me choked up and yet joyful at the same time, when I think about the time it was written, and the purpose of the song. They just don’t write lyrics like that anymore.
What was your favourite gift you ever received?
Wow!! I can’t remember one specific gift! Probably books. My mum and dad always used to buy me books, really awesome classic ones, I was a very young avid reader. I still have them, and they are cherished.
What is your favourite Christmas memory?
Christmas with my Dutch family. Real Christmas trees, and the amazing smell that just infiltrates the whole house. Yummy Dutch foods, good times, and treasured memories of my now gone family!
Does it snow where you live?
No, never! I live in Brisbane, Australia. It’s never snowy here, and it’s summer right now, so hail storms is the closest thing to an icy time we have.
Do you own an “ugly holiday sweater”?
Honestly, I wish I did, because it would wear it with pride!! But alas, no, I don’t.
Hot chocolate or eggnog?
Neither! Sorry, just not a fan. Icy water, wine or Coke!
Have you ever been kissed under a mistletoe?
No, not that I recall. It would be cool though. I’m pretty sure we can only have fake mistletoe here, I might have to get a sprig and surprise hubby, lol. He already thinks I’m a fruitcake so what the heck! Do I put it over the front door or where does it go? Tell me and I’ll do it 🙂
There we go, that’s all the questions I found in the tag. I tag anyone who reads this post to do this too. It doesn’t take long, and I’d love to read a little more about you all, so let me know below if you participate. This post has got me even MORE excited for Christmas!! Can’t wait!! And wherever you are in this Wonderful World, Happy Christmas, I hope it is filled with Joy and Laughter.
